Sciatica
An evaluation can help clarify pain traveling into the leg and identify appropriate options for care.

What sciatica describes
Sciatica refers to symptoms associated with irritation or compression of nerve roots that contribute to the sciatic nerve. Pain may travel from the lower back or buttock down the leg, sometimes with tingling, numbness, or weakness.
Not all leg pain is sciatica. A health history and examination help distinguish nerve-related symptoms from other causes and determine whether additional medical evaluation is needed.
Finding a suitable care plan
Your provider may assess strength, sensation, reflexes, and movement. When conservative chiropractic care is appropriate, options may include gentle treatment, guided exercise, and advice on activities that aggravate or ease your symptoms.
The plan should be reviewed as you respond. Persistent symptoms or neurological changes may require imaging or referral; adjustments are not appropriate for every cause of leg pain.
Urgent nerve symptoms
Seek emergency care for new bladder or bowel dysfunction, numbness around the groin or saddle area, or rapidly worsening leg weakness. These symptoms can indicate serious nerve compression.
For ongoing radiating pain without these warning signs, schedule an evaluation. Note which movements change your symptoms and whether you have noticed changes in sensation or strength.
